What you need – Gear
On our first day, we begin with fundamentals of photography and we invite you to take notes. Each day, we will be walking throughout the city to practice our newly acquired photography techniques and skills. We recommend that you bring two of your favourite lenses and camera, tripod and flash; if you want to show all your toys, don’t limit yourself. After the first day, you will need your laptop with Adobe Lightroom (30-day free trial available) for hands-on experience at editing your photographs for best results. Point & Shoot cameras are NOT ALLOWED.
What you will gain – Knowledge & Skills
These workshops are designed to improve your level of photography by introducing you to new concepts and theories that can be applied immediately. During the workshops, you will be working with others who are also seeking to expand their knowledge of photography in an environment of trust, confident and pleasure.
We will spend our time photographing in a variety of iconic locations, many of the hidden parts of Venice, like the colorful Burano Island. Our concentration will be on producing images that capture the heart and soul of this event. Most attendees normally own Leica, Nikon or Cannon cameras and lenses but are not required for you to own to attend this workshop. We believe that the most important element in capturing better photographs is the person behind the camera.
Topics Covered – Discussions & Assignments
Attending a photography workshop is a unique way of learning new skills, while forming new friendships with other photography enthusiasts. We will be discussing a variety of photography related topics with questions and answers at your pace, to help you to master the secrets of legendary photographers. You will learn tips and techniques on how to capture better photographs. As we walk through the city streets you will get a chance to put what you have learned into practice and complete various assignments that will greatly benefit your photography skills. We will examine and edit photographs which you have taken to solidify your understanding of theories and concepts thought during the workshop.
Results – Better Photography
When you complete our photography workshop, you can expect to be more confident and skilled at taking photographs. In the following months with consistent application of principles thought during the workshop you will see improvements in your photographs. Techniques and secrets that you have learned will stay with you for years to come and when you are ready you can take your photography to the next level by attending one of our advanced photography workshops. Plan to be surrounded by “a million” another serious photographer who want to get same shot you are trying to get, and you will succeed! You have to “embrace” the situation and capture the shot.
Code of conduct
We do not tolerate racial, sexual, religious or abusive behavior – physical or verbal – toward our staff or other participating photographers. Each participant takes part in the workshop at his or her own risk for safety and environment. We will give a safety briefing at the start of each session, but it is up to the participant to decide whether you are confident and physically capable to take part in each of the sessions. If you have any questions, please contact us directly. Because we’ll also have some fun time tasting local food and wine, please alert us to any food allergies or restrictions. Please also let us know medical issues or mobility limitations that may affect your ability to take part. If you are unsure, we are happy to discuss with you. In Venice, there are a lot of historical architectural barriers so this activity is not wheelchair accessible.
